History of The Rose Manor
Our beautiful bed and breakfast resides in the historic Colonel Rose House.
The Rose family were prominent members of the Welland community for generations, and owned several homes and businesses that remain well-known landmarks in this historic community. Colonel Rose was a lawyer and veteran, but also a prizewinning gardener and horticulturist. At one point, he was also the president of the Ontario Rose Society.
This grand home was built circa 1906 for Colonel Hugh Alexander Rose II as a gift for his 18th birthday. It was redone circa 1920 in Tudor Revival style, as characterized by exposed timbers with stucco infill. The exterior style was changed to Tudor because the Colonel was fascinated with the style while serving in Europe during WWI.
We embrace the many traditional details of our century home, and work diligently to preserve the beauty of its craftmanship. Our modern furnishings enhance our home and breathe new life into this well-preserved estate.
